This will be possible for Olsen Middle students, but we urgently need the 20-30 volunteers required by Junior Achievement. Volunteers will be trained to participate as the students take their unique trip through Finance Park. Volunteers are asked to report to the Finance Park at 7:00 AM for an hour of training before students arrive. Volunteers can sign up to serve one day, two days or all three! We will be happy to assist in organizing carpools so please don’t let transportation stop you from volunteering!

On Monday, January 14, 2010, Palm Cove Elementary will be taking 5th grade students on a field trip to Junior Achievement BizTown, located at the Broward College-North Campus (formerly known as BCC).  This is an unusual opportunity for adult volunteers to actively participate as students enter a mini-city, supported by trained instructors (volunteers), where they will take full responsibility as proprietors, civic leaders and customers. The students will operate and patronize businesses such as a newspaper, radio station, television station, bank, electric company, restaurant, real estate firm, and others.  Through their day at BizTown, students will greatly increase their knowledge of the free enterprise system, teamwork, leadership, punctuality and many other skills vital to success in the workplace.

Palm Cove needs approximately 35 volunteers, who will report to Biz Town for training one hour before the students arrive.  We will be happy to coordinate carpools from the school to BizTown for volunteers who do not wish to drive to the Coconut Creek campus.  This will be AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE FOR BOTH THE STUDENTS AND THE ADULT VOLUNTEERS!

Sign up today by calling Ms. Carolyn Cerrato, Reading Resource Specialist, at 754-323-6814 or Email her at carolyn.cerrato@browardschools.com.   Please note: due to the large number of volunteers needed, we are accepting volunteers whose children are not attending fifth grade at Palm Cove.
